Dear Voter,

Long before I was elected to public office, I was serving my community.

My commitment to public service began in 2000 with Communities In Schools in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. As a mentor, I saw firsthand how access to guidance, resources, and opportunity can change the course of a young person’s life. That experience shaped the way I continue to view leadership today: government should work alongside the community to remove barriers, create opportunities, and help people succeed.

Over the years, that commitment has guided my work in community service, victim advocacy, service as a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem for vulnerable individuals, community collaboration, and my professional career in public service.

Today, I am proud to serve the Town of Dumfries as Vice Mayor while also serving our nation as a senior Human Capital Analyst with the U.S. Department of Transportation. In both roles, my purpose remains the same: to solve problems, improve systems, and help people.

I am deeply honored to be the first Black woman to serve as Vice Mayor of Dumfries. Since my election to Town Council, my colleagues have selected me to serve in this leadership role during each council term. I do not take their trust—or the trust of the residents of Dumfries—for granted.

My husband, Larry, and I have called Dumfries home for many years. It is where we raised our family and where we have remained actively involved in the community. Whether supporting youth athletics, mentoring future leaders, helping our neighbors, or working alongside residents to strengthen our town, service has always been a family value.

Public service is not simply something I do. It is who I am.

I believe government works best when it listens before it leads. Every decision should be rooted in transparency, accountability, and long-term value for the people we serve.

Leadership is not about pretending to have all the answers. It is about asking thoughtful questions, listening to different perspectives, bringing people together, and developing solutions that improve lives.

I do not measure success by the number of meetings attended, motions introduced, or speeches given. I measure it by whether our work creates opportunities, removes barriers, strengthens neighborhoods, and leaves Dumfries better than we found it.

None of that work happens through one person alone.

Every accomplishment during my time in office has been strengthened by residents who stepped forward to share their ideas, voice their concerns, offer their expertise, and help guide the work of our town. Your participation makes me a better public servant, and it makes Dumfries a stronger community.

That is why I continue to say: Don’t Just Complain, Contribute.

Contribute your ideas. Contribute your time. Contribute your experience, insight, and vision for what Dumfries can become. My responsibility is to listen, to bring your concerns into the rooms where decisions are made, and to use my position to uplift your efforts and support the goals we share.

I take my role as your public servant seriously, and I am asking you to continue standing alongside me. Together, we can build a community that listens to its residents, supports its families, creates opportunities, and gives all of us something to be proud of.
