As Vice Mayor, I've worked to improve transparency, strengthen infrastructure, expand opportunities, and ensure Dumfries continues to grow while keeping residents at the center of every decision.
Together we've accomplished a great deal, but our work isn't finished. I'm asking for your support so we can continue Working for Dumfries.
Vice Mayor Monae Nickerson
Town of Dumfries, VA
At-Large Director, NBC-LEO
The Town of Dumfries continues to experience strong economic stability, driven by strategic development initiatives, business-friendly policies and growing community engagement.
The local economy is strengthened by thriving businesses such as The Rose Gaming Resort & Hotel, which opened in 2024, and the newly launched Majestic Banquet Hall, alongside several upcoming projects that will further strengthen the Town’s economic foundation. Notably, Wawa, set to open in Fall 2025, will enhance convenience and retail options for residents.
Monaé Nickerson, Vice Mayor of The Town of Dumfries, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Small Cities Council. Vice Mayor Nickerson was elected to a (second) one-year term to develop and guide programs among local elected officials from similar communities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mayor-Elect David Sander of Rancho Cordova, Calif.
“As Vice Mayor of Dumfries, I’m honored to serve on the Small Cities Council for a second year. This
role amplifies our town’s voice on important national issues and brings tangible benefits to our
community,” ~Vice Mayor Nickerson
“Programs like this primarily offer an opportunity for our residents to connect with our town and the police department. This is a proactive step in the right direction. At the same time, others may not see the value in this effort. Taking guns out of homes where the owner no longer wants or uses them and giving people an incentive to take guns out of circulation decreases the chances of them being used for criminal activity.” ~Vice Mayor Nickerson
“This is the perfect definition of meeting people where they are, and that’s what we’ve done and will continue to do. I’m very proud to be part of a council that listens to the people and gives them what they need.” Vice Mayor, Nickerson
“It was a lot of work putting this together, especially behind the scenes,” she continued, “but it’s worth it to see the smiles on everyone’s faces when they leave. Even for the ones who may not have been able to have their records expunged, we’re going to make sure that they are not defeated but empowered.” ~ Vice Mayor Nickerson
Vice Mayor Monaé Nickerson asked why those concerned about traffic have not attended Prince William County Board of Supervisors meetings having to do with highway improvements in the county. “Why was no one else concerned about what has happened in Dumfries until now,” she said. “Where was this energy when we needed money for Route 1 funding?”

A Tribute to a Cultural Icon: Al Brooks
I had the distinct pleasure to serve with the African American Democratic Club - Prince William County on the committee for the Al Brooks commemorative event. We paid homage to a local hero and Civil Rights leader, Mr. Albert Brooks; we are grateful for all he has done in our community and the seeds he planted. Mr. Al Brooks is a Cultural Icon.

Swearing-in Ceremony July 2018:
After taking the oath, I address my constituents without a speech, just speaking from my heart, "continue to support us, we can't do it by ourselves... #DontJustComplain_Contribute..."
